IS IT ART OR IS IT SCIENCE?

San Base Studio Presents the World’s first Dynamic Paintings in an Exclusive Gallery Reception, December 11th from 6-9pm.

For Immediate Release

TORONTO, Friday, December 5, 2008- Since the dawn of visual art, paintings have been in static format. The artist paints an original concept or idea on canvas without depth, dimension or time. With the advent of computer technology we have experienced a shift in paradigm. Using the computer screen as a canvas we can breathe life into a previously static painting. Examples of this approach can be found in 3D computer games or in dynamic images generated by various screen-savers. Could these examples be considered art or are they simple machinations of computer technology?  After all, even Jackson Pollock paintings don’t follow the classical framework of visual art. Canadian artist San Base has dedicated his career to ending this debate. He is the pioneer of a new medium of art that maintains the classical elements of painting, while harnessing the power of computer technology to bring two drastically different disciplines together. Unlike 3D images created by computer artists, his paintings are composed of abstract images in the state of perpetual transformation. The overall idea of the painting remains unchanged, while the computer introduces infinite variations. San Base paintings are the world’s first generation of digital paint on canvas. In the first public presentation of this new medium, San Base Studio presents Dynamic Paintings, in an exclusive reception for media, design professionals and art enthusiasts on December 11th at 88 Scollard Ave, Toronto from 6-9pm. For a demonstration and to RSVP at www.sanbasestudio.com/inv.htm or by calling Cameron Thomas, San Base Studio at 416-660-9801

“Dynamic Paintings are going to revolutionize the art world for many years to come”, says San Base, creator of the Dynamic Painting technology, “I have truly created an innovation in digital art that will hopefully end the debate between classical artists and computer artists the world over. I have created the first digital generative art that is truly the original creation of the artist and successfully innovated two disciplines that are normally polar opposites. I think that being an experienced programmer and an artist gives me an added edge”

Dynamic Paintings are created by conceiving an idea, selecting basic colors, shapes and principles of development. Unlike a conventional painter, San Base has to think in many dimensions to properly design the evolution of his images. Using a wide array of techniques that have deep roots in the styles of conventional painting, San Base converts brush strokes into algorithms. These algorithms represent the "DNA" of the picture like the DNA of a living organism. With a slight mutation; the image algorithm can produce an infinite number of unique paintings. This "mutation" process can be slowly animated over time to produce a fluid motion within the element of a painting; producing a magnificent never-ending and never repeating show.

Dynamic paintings are ideal for decorative applications in the home, office or public space and add elegance and sophistication to the environment. A typical Dynamic Painting installation includes proprietary hardware connected to a large high definition LCD or Plasma monitor. The system and display can be tailored to a particular specification or design. The benefits of this genre are obvious-an endless supply of unprecedented and unpredictable paintings in the place of one static image.

Powerful modern computers and printing technology enable the printing of high resolution Dynamic snapshots on canvas. 48"x36", limited editions can be printed, using state of the art Giclee printing technology. Each print is signed and numbered by the artist. A catalogue of these paintings can be found at

www.sanbasestudio.com/galleries.htm

Dynamic Paintings can also be enjoyed on DVD. Each Dynamic DVD is a one hour snapshot of a looping Dynamic Painting. The art form can be brought to life using a standard DVD player and a high quality TV set making it a perfect economical solution for spaces with a high volume of people, like restaurants, malls or busy hallways.

About the Artist

Russian born, Canadian artist San Base showed an aptitude and passion for the arts and mathematics in early childhood. As an admirer of both, he faced a tough decision to accept an offer to Surikov Academy of Fine Arts (one of the most prominent art schools in Russia) or to go to a technical university. In the end, he selected a program in applied science and graduated as a cybernetics engineer. In the early '90s, San Base developed the concept of Dynamic Painting by combining two of his strengths - programmer's skills and love of art. He immigrated to Canada in the mid '90s and over the last decade has perfected the technology. The concept of Dynamic Painting was discovered almost by fluke. The economic collapse of the former USSR in the nineties had a devastating effect on all aspects of life. Art supplies such as brushes, paints and canvas were hard to find.  On an occasion where San was out of canvas, it occurred to him that he could paint over his old pieces of work. As he started painting he noticed something peculiar about the way he was doing it. While painting over the old images, San always subconsciously tried to select colors in such a way, that the latest work in progress would always harmonize with the old image. This phenomenon seemed intriguing to him, so he purposefully began transforming the same picture over and over again, achieving interesting results in the process. The paintings attained another dimension - the dimension of time. But the process itself was too laborious; the paints and canvas were far from being an ideal platform for implementing the newly discovered concept. It occurred to San Base that a computer or TV screen would be a much better device for bringing pictures to life than a real canvas. This is where his computer engineering background came handy. San Base put the brushes aside and started developing a program that could help him automate the image generation and transformation. With his efforts a new medium was born.

GET OUT OF YOUR BOX OF CHOCOLATES AND INTO THE WEIGHT LOSS PLAYGROUND

Dynamic Conditioning Center (DCC) launches the First Out of your Box Body Fat Challenge to Shed Holiday Pounds- DCC Pros share 9 Top Tips for Getting Lean Fast, Staying Fit Longer and Having Fun Doing It in 2009.

If you find yourself indulging this holiday season, don’t fret. The battle of the January bulge doesn’t need to be a thorn in your side. In fact weight loss can fun and hassle free. Keeping the pilot light lit on that fat-burning fire only requires a little willpower, commitment and dedication. By setting realistic goals, making small modifications to your diet and adding a workout partner(s) you can improve accountability and guarantee results. Don’t be afraid to vary your routine using different tools and equipment in different planes and add an element of competition to improve intensity. Keep in mind that machine training works in only one plain and can get boring after a while. From lunges, to pull-ups, to running the stairs, to squats, using your head to think outside the box is all you need to move your fitness training to the next level and if in doubt, hire a fitness professional to help you out.

“Weight loss is a commitment to dig deep and see what you’re really made of”, says Lee Davy, Co-founder & CEO of DCC. “Set your sights on some attainable goals, add some guidance, a little dedication, effort and focus-especially at the beginning-to make changes to your nutritional and exercise habits. Once you begin to see results, it only gets easier to stick to the program. Pick an exercise routine that’s fun and non-repetitive. Training doesn’t have to be like watching paint dry. At Dynamic we train the whole body using unconventional training tools like tractor tires, weighted sleds, climbing ropes, monkey bars, cargo nets, and other balancing tools-it’s like an adult playground in fact it is the first fitness & athletic playground. That’s not to say you won’t have to work hard to achieve results, after all anything worth achieving has never come without a little hard work”.

The pros at DCC are putting their money where your pounds are and challenging Toronto residents to shed their holiday bulge. Dynamic Conditioning Centre launches its first 2009 Out of your Box Body Fat Challenge for novices and athletes of all stripes and shares 9 top tips for getting lean fast, staying fit longer and having fun doing it in 2009. The Out of your Box Body Fat Challenge is a unique weight loss competition that combines team effectiveness and individual competition with the diversification and fun of obstacle course training. Imagine pulling a weighted sled up and down field turf, thrusting kettle bells into different flight patterns, jumping in and out of a large tractor tire and crossing a set of monkey bars, while racing against time. You get an intense metabolic workout, build strength, improve your hand-eye co-ordination and receive the support and motivation of your peers to help you push your limits.  Dynamic Conditioning coaches will assess your body fat content using the Charles Poliquin Biosignature Analysis, analyze and plan your dietary intake and pair you up with 1 to 5 individuals with similar goals, interests and personalities. Over a 12 week period results will be documented and posted on the competitor results board. On a monthly basis competitors will evaluated on total weight loss, percentage weight loss, lean muscle mass, body part size reduction and obstacle course time trials. The participant with the lowest score will be the winner of the challenge. As an added incentive the winner of the Body Fat challenge will be awarded a 50% discount and 3 month complimentary membership on all future DCC purchases, including a comprehensive maintenance package to keep the pounds off all year. To sign up or enquire about the 2009 Out of your Box Body Fat Challenge contact Lee Davey or Jared Postance at DCC, 416-929-7812 or email info@dccentre.ca

Top Tips for Getting Lean Fast, Staying Fit Longer and Having Fun Doing It in 2009.

  1. Maintain a healthy level of willpower – The old adage you are what you eat will absolutely show up in the mirror.

“The most difficult thing about changing your eating patterns is just that, the pattern. Once you get into the habit of eating a healthier more balanced diet, the easier and easier it becomes”, says Karla McConnell, Athletic Therapist and Acupuncturist at DCC. “Don’t mistake eating healthier for eating blandly. People think that eating a healthy diet means you have to give up everything that tastes good, ABSOLUTELY UNTRUE! Reduce your carb intake and have a cheat meal once a week. Avoid anything white, processed, or that has a shelf life of more than two weeks old. DO add lots of vegetables and protein at (all) of your meals. This doesn’t mean you have to cut all of the dressings, sauces and taste.  It just means you need to make better choices. Instead of jelly beans, eat chocolate covered almonds. Chocolate covered almonds are a source of good fats, protein and of course chocolate.  Never a bad idea to add fish oil with your good fats either. Fish oil helps with fat burning and a variety of other benefits”.

  1. Measure body fat content and rebalance your hormones

“After all, if you don’t know where your body fat content is today, you won’t know where it needs to be tomorrow. Measure your fat content and get a clear view of your hormonal profile. It reveals key information about your diet, exercise and fitness, levels and can positively affect your mood, stress levels, sleep patterns and body fat levels among others”, says Lee Davy, Co-founder and Strength/Conditioning Coach at DCC. “One of the most effective methods to measure body fat and hormone levels is with the Charles Poliquin’s Biosignature test.  This test measures body fat at 10 different sites for men and 12 sites for women. Each site correlates to a different hormone and reveals your unique biological signature. Use the results to control your diet, design herbal supplement protocols, modify your exercise routine and make lifestyle changes. By rebalancing your hormones you can lose weight quickly and feel healthy longer.

  1. Manage your food portions

“If you can’t see your plate, chances are there’s way too much on it”, say’s Tyson Staples, Conditioning Coach at DCC. “You should never need a shovel sized eating instrument to get the job done.  The truth is, if you eat smaller meals at regular intervals, you’ll feel better, have more energy and burn more calories.

  1. Replace coffee with green tea.

“Most of what people put in their coffee is garbage, especially people who think sweetener is a healthier choice than sugar”, says Aaron Smillie RMT and Strength Coach at DCC. “The body has difficulty processing chemicals like sweeteners and they tend to gum up the body.  Green Tea conversely has many beneficial properties; it helps fight medical conditions such as cancer, arthritis and high cholesterol, it detoxifies and cleanses the liver and it aids in digestion after eating”.

  1. Stay motivated – a boot camp or obstacle course type of training environment or class may be the training option you need.

“Most often an end goal or some significant reward can have an impact on whether or not you stick with your fitness program”, says Davy. “Often the best thing to stay on track includes, training with a partner or small group to help make you accountable.  Time tends to pass much quicker when you are chatting it up with a group of peers – a little competition never hurt anyone either. If you add a number of elements and time them in an obstacle course fashion, it becomes a fun, competitive challenge that stimulates the entire body in a multitude of different ways”.

  1. Make training fun and interesting

Reading the paper while walking on the treadmill is not an effective training method”, says Davy, “Training should be focused, enjoyable and stimulating.  Use a variety of equipment and tools to move your body in different planes. From lunges, to pull-ups, to burpees to squats, using your head to think outside the box is all you need to push your fitness training to the next level. Go to the dump and get an old tractor tire. Put it in the backyard and use it for squatting, flipping, pushing and pulling. Tractor tires are free and you’ll be helping the environment at the same time. Use your imagination and you will ensure a fun and functional workout at all times”.

  1. Train with intensity and desire

“Having an in depth conversation about the meaning of life in between sets is an intensity killer”, says Davy, “Reduce your rest times between sets and keep your heart rate up for your entire workout. The longer you can keep your heart rate up the more calories you will burn. Move from one exercise to the next and make sure that you target different areas of the body”.

  1. Train with weights and do away with long slow bouts of cardio

“Train with weights and don’t worry about “cardio” training”, says Davy, “Long, slow, boring bouts of cardio are not the way to leaner, more muscular physiques. Weights enable you to build muscle while keeping your heart rate up and allow you to burn more calories. Unless you truly enjoy running or cycling or are training for a competition, “cardio” activities aren’t necessary”.

  1. Drink lots of water

“With approximately 80% of your body consisting of water, it makes sense that water is a key building block to a healthy body.  Drinking lots of water improves recovery time, lubricates the joints, dilutes pollutants and conducts electrical impulses, enabling you to contract muscle more efficiently”, says Jared Postance Co-founder & CEO of DCC. “An individual should consume no less than 2-3 litres per day and 5-6 litres in ideal”.

About Dynamic Painting Technology

Dynamic Painting is a form of digital generative art that is truly the original creation of the artist- a new kind of art-created by human, and developed endlessly by a computer. It is based on an original idea described in a precise mathematical way that governs the shape, color and dimension of the generated image, converting brush strokes into algorithms. The algorithms of a dynamic painting represent the DNA of the picture, mutating to generate a series of distinct images that follow the style and concept of the original painting. This novel technology is ideal in many decorative applications for home, office, or public space.  A typical Dynamic Painting installation includes proprietary hardware connected to a large high definition LCD/Plasma monitor. The system and display can be tailored to a particular specification; to fit any environment. The benefits of this genre are obvious:  an endless supply of unprecedented and unpredictable paintings in the place of one static image

WHAT IS YOUR SKIN TYPE

Bronzeado Tan Spa Offers Complimentary Skin Analysis to Ultimate Sun Seekers to Promote Summer Sunburn Prevention and Awareness

Do you plan on praying to the sun gods this summer?  When vanity calls, make sure you know your skin type. This expertise may be the difference between a beautiful bronze tan and dangerous sunburn. In the month of June, Bronzeado will offer complimentary skin analysis to promote summer sunburn prevention and awareness. Sessions can be reserved by calling Bronzeado Tan Spa at 416-987-1987 or by email at info@bronzeado.com

Bronzeado joins the chorus of concerned voices recommending sunburn prevention, at the cottage, beach or around the pool. Bronzeado knows that sunburn prevention is a more effective message than sun avoidance, which ultimately encourages abuse.  “We know that vanity is a large sun motivator”, says Stephanie Kluke, Owner of Bronzeado Tan Spa. “It is not our role to stop clients from lying in the sun, but to teach smart tanning practices” Kluke says. “At Bronzeado we follow a comprehensive consultation process that includes skin analysis and sun exposure planning. One of our key practices is to determine a client skin type”, says Kluke. “Your skin type determines personal sensitivity to the sun and ability to tan or burn”. “For example, there are some skin types that always burn easily and never tan. These are the clients we would recommend a sun avoidance strategy, including the use of high SPF lotions, seeking shade and staying out of the sun at peek times between 11am and 3pm”. Kluke also says, “I would also recommend sunless tanning methods like the airbrush tanning we offer at Bronzeado.

The 10 minute skin analysis is conducted by a certified Bronzeado technician and probes hereditary disposition, tan history and habits. An exposure plan is designed to reflect skin type, client goals and skin care needs. For a copy of the Bronzeado Skin Sensitivity Questionnaire and the Sun Reactive Skin Type Chart email info@bronzeado.com.

Bronzeado is Canada's first luxury tan spa to apply holistic principles to its tanning, products and operations. High pressure tanning, low pressure tanning, airbrush tanning and esthetics are all offered under one roof, including an exclusive juice bar serving a wide range of fruit & herbal tonics called Elixirs. Bronzeado is quickly becoming the HOT spot for flawless airbrush tanning and has been featured on CFTO news, Flare, Glow, Elevate Magazine, Canadian Beauty and Rogers Toronto Living.

What is Holistic Tanning

Holistic tanning is a philosophy that unites tanning education, planning and management with state of the art technology, skin care and socially plus environmentally responsible products and operations. Bronzeado follows an 8 step Holistic tanning process, paying homage to smart and fully informed tanning:

1.        Education and Training

Bronzeado will ensure 100 % transparency in all tanning and spa operations including government regulations, tanning options and dangers, first and maximum exposure times to skin type, manufacturer specifications, equipment maintenance, spa techniques and product ingredients.

2.        Client Assessment-Detailed records of health, tanning and burn history, skin type and skin conditions

As a member of Smart Tan Canada, Bronzeado espouses a conservative and responsible approach to tanning. Bronzeado staff will ask numerous questions about client lifestyles to design personal tanning plans. Each client will be required to fill in a comprehensive client questionnaire on their first visit or from a special online form. A detailed digital record of services rendered will be updated on each visit.

3.        Smart and informed Planning

Bronzeado will carefully plan and manage personal tanning programs based on skin type, burn and tanning history, photo sensitivities, equipment specifications and client goals. Dangerous burning of the skin will be avoided at all costs and staff will follow a strict refusal policy for potentially damaging tanning practices. In particular Bronzeado will not permit anyone under 16 to use the tanning beds and those between 16 and 18 must have parental consent, signed on the premises. Bronzeado will also ask for photo ID where age of a young person is in question.

4.        Proper Skin Care

Certified estheticians will be available for pre and post tanning skin care applications, procedures and advice to prevent premature aging and skin damage.

5.        State-of-the-art tanning technology

Bronzeado has invested 160K in four of the latest top beds from Ergoline and SunItalia to achieve balanced and smart tanning sessions. In particular, three of the beds are of the High Pressure type, which means they emit more UVA and substantially less UVB. UVB has been associated with increased levels of burning rays, whereas UVA rays are more likely to produce a better tan and the risk of burning is significantly reduced.

Bronzeado can provide guests with a realistic personal estimate of Vitamin D absorption with its Solartech Vitamin D Solar meter.

Bronzeado will always be on the lookout for new and cutting edge technologies in the tanning and spa industries and provide it to their clients.

6.        Socially responsible and environmentally sustainable products and supplies

Bronzeado has searched the globe for the best products and supplies to compliment its holistic approach to tanning and aesthetics. Bronzeado will follow a strict three point purchasing philosophy.

·          Are the products made with natural and organic ingredients?

·          Do they optimize health and wellness?

·          Are they manufactured with the environment in mind?

Bronzeado supports products from Jurlique, Spa Essentials and Elixir Tonics that meet this strict purchasing philosophy.

7.        Equipment Maintenance/Cleaning

Bronzeado will follow a regular maintenance/cleaning program (monthly) for its Ergoline and SunItalia tanning systems. Replacement parts and bulbs will only be purchased from the original manufacturer. Beds will be regularly tested to ensure UV emissions are within the recommended limits set by the manufacturer.

Bronzeado will provide each client with their own set of goggles for personal use only.

Beds will be cleaned after every use to prevent infection and disease

.

8.        Financial support for scientific studies on cancer, tanning technologies and other health and wellness issues

Bronzeado supports research in tanning, skin care, skin cancer and other health and wellness issues. Bronzeado will donate proceeds from tanning and spa revenues to these worthy issues.

GRAB YOUR WINTER BLUES BY THE BULB

Canada’s First Holistic Tan Spa Promotes Responsible Indoor Tanning and Launches an 8 Step Tanning Process to Cure Winter Depression and to Give a Gift of Vitamin D.

Xxxxx Launches February 7th and 8th, 2008 with Exclusive Media Information Sessions at XXXX St, Toronto, ON, 10AM-8PM.

For immediate release

January 29th, TORONTO, ON- While the dangers of excessive sunlight exposure and artificial tanning are well publicized, very few people are aware of the possible benefits from responsible UV exposure. In fact advice to cover up, lather up and to avoid UV rays at all costs could be detrimental to your health.  Controversial bodies of research suggests a responsible amount of UV from artificial sources might cure Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) and even provide a winter dose of vitamin D. Toronto based Xxxx stakes it’s future on the benefits of responsible tanning to achieve good health and vitality. Canada’s first Holistic Tan Spa launches an 8 step Holistic Tanning process in exclusive media information sessions, February 7th and February 8th, 2008 at XXXX St from 10:00AM-8:00PM. Xxxxx will be booking one hour private sessions on a first come first serve basis and invites guests to experience two spa or tanning services for free. Please state two time preferences in your RSVP. RSVP by February 5th at 5PM to Cameron Thomas, PRONOIC PR at cameron_thomas@rogers.com or by calling 416-660-9802.

Xxxxx officially launches during the peak of Canadian vulnerability to seasonal depression. Recent statistics published by the Globe and Mail suggests we are suffering from one of the darkest years yet. In a January 25th, 2008 article, “Dark Cloud with No Silver Lining”, Dave Phillips, Senior Climatologist with Environment Canada comments on the short supply of sunlight and its effect on Canadians this year. “Across Canada, there certainly has been less sunshine than usual this winter” said Phillips, “People who are feeling down in the dumps or have the winter blahs because they can’t see the sun are not imagining it. Those who really suffer from SAD are probably feeling bad”.  Xxxxx is answering the call made by the Globe statistics and is buoyed by research from respected medical experts and epidemiologists in the UK and the U.S. Extensive research suggests that responsible exposure to UV rays may “induce a feeling of wellbeing” and may even provide “our winter source of vitamin D”.

Freelance medical researcher Oliver Gillie argues in his 2004 report entitled “Sunlight Robbery” that government policy has over emphasized the dangers of tanning and urges responsible tanning practices, including the use of artificial tanning beds to get our winter dose of vitamin D. Gillie said, “Sun beds may be a healthy option if used carefully for maintaining winter levels of vitamin D. Consideration needs to be given to recommending ultraviolet lamps and tanning salons to the public as a means of maintaining vitamin D levels during winter. Recommendations and controls concerning the use of sun beds should be reviewed with the aim of encouraging use of sun beds while maintaining safeguards”

In a 1999 report entitled “Are We Really Dying for a Tan” epidemiologists, Andrew R Ness, Stephen J Frankel, David J Gunnell and George Davey Smith challenge the notions of Health Professionals critical of tanning and argue that responsible UV exposure may aid winter depression and the symptoms of Seasonable Affective Disorder. They said, “People find lying or sitting in the sun enjoyable and relaxing. This subjective sense of wellbeing may be important in itself in improving the quality of a person's life. Seasonal variations in sunlight exposure may underlie a proportion of episodes of depression---those attributed to seasonal affective disorder. Psychiatric illness is an important factor in population health, and any beneficial effect of increased exposure to sunlight might reduce appreciably the population burden of disease”.

Holistic tanning is a philosophy that unites tanning education, planning and management with state of the art technology, skin care and socially plus environmentally responsible products and operations. Xxxxx follows an 8 step Holistic tanning process, paying homage to smart and fully informed tanning:

1.       Education and Training

Xxxxx will ensure 100 % transparency in all tanning and spa operations including government regulations, tanning options and dangers, first and maximum exposure times to skin type, manufacturer specifications, equipment maintenance, spa techniques and product ingredients.

2.       Client Assessment-Detailed records of health, tanning and burn history, skin type and skin conditions

As a member of Smart Tan Canada, Xxxxx espouses a conservative and responsible approach to tanning. Xxxxx staff will ask numerous questions about client lifestyles to design personal tanning plans. Each client will be required to fill in a comprehensive client questionnaire on their first visit or from a special online form. A detailed digital record of services rendered will be updated on each visit.

3.       Smart and informed Planning

Xxxxx will carefully plan and manage personal tanning programs based on skin type, burn and tanning history, photo sensitivities, equipment specifications and client goals. Dangerous burning of the skin will be avoided at all costs and staff will follow a strict refusal policy for potentially damaging tanning practices. In particular Xxxxx will not permit anyone under 16 to use the tanning beds and those between 16 and 18 must have parental consent, signed on the premises. Bronzeado will also ask for photo ID where age of a young person is in question.

4.       Proper Skin Care

Certified estheticians will be available for pre and post tanning skin care applications, procedures and advice to prevent premature aging and skin damage.

5.       State-of-the-art tanning technology

Xxxxx has invested 160K in four of the latest top beds from Ergoline and SunItalia to achieve balanced and smart tanning sessions. In particular, three of the beds are of the High Pressure type, which means they emit more UVA and substantially less UVB. UVB has been associated with increased levels of burning rays, whereas UVA rays are more likely to produce a better tan and the risk of burning is significantly reduced.

Xxxxx can provide guests with a realistic personal estimate of Vitamin D absorption with its Solartech Vitamin D Solar meter.

Xxxxx will always be on the lookout for new and cutting edge technologies in the tanning and spa industries and provide it to their clients.

6.       Socially responsible and environmentally sustainable products and supplies

Xxxxx has searched the globe for the best products and supplies to compliment its holistic approach to tanning and aesthetics. Xxxxx will follow a strict three point purchasing philosophy.

·         Are the products made with natural and organic ingredients?

·         Do they optimize health and wellness?

·         Are they manufactured with the environment in mind?

Xxxxx supports products from Jurlique, Spa Essentials and Elixir Tonics that meet this strict purchasing philosophy.

7.       Equipment Maintenance/Cleaning

Xxxxx will follow a regular maintenance/cleaning program (monthly) for its Ergoline and SunItalia tanning systems. Replacement parts and bulbs will only be purchased from the original manufacturer. Beds will be regularly tested to ensure UV emissions are within the recommended limits set by the manufacturer.

Xxxxx will provide each client with their own set of goggles for personal use only.

Beds will be cleaned after every use to prevent infection and disease

.

8.       Financial support for scientific studies on cancer, tanning technologies and other health and wellness issues

Xxxxx supports research in tanning, skin care, skin cancer and other health and wellness issues. Bronzeado will donate proceeds from tanning and spa revenues to these worthy issues.

BRONZEADO Q&A

Interview with Stephanie Kluke

1.       Tell me a little bit about yourself and your partner Stephen Cullen. Describe to me briefly about your backgrounds, education or skills.

Stephen Cullen has been a friend for many years. He recently retired from a career in international banking and was looking for an entrepreneurial venture to fill his time. I’m an avid traveler and spa client and was struck by the lack of vision in the tanning industry. In my research I identified a perfect opportunity to marry tanning and aesthetics in a unique spa venue never seen in the Toronto are. I have previous experience running my own business and felt my vision and entrepreneurial zeal was a great match with Stephan’s financial acumen.

2.       How did you come up with the name Bronzeado? Is there significance or meaning to the name?

Bronzeado means tanned in Portuguese and Italian. We wanted a unique and elegant name that represented both the tanning and spa aspects of our business.

3.       Where is Bronzeado located? Describe the process of choosing your location.

Bronzeado is located at 2030 Yonge St just north of Davisville. I have lived in the area for over 12 years and have a strong grasp of the demographic, competition and special needs of my neighbors. I want to be a hands-on owner and wanted a business close to home.

4.       Why a tanning spa?

I do a lot of traveling to Miami, L.A and other points south in the winter. I’m also a regular client of tanning salons and spa’s around the world. Tanning has a positive image south of the border that I wanted to bring to Toronto. I believed Toronto was ready for a new tanning and spa concept that was stylish, modern and luxurious. I wanted to bring the spa attention to detail to the Toronto tanning industry.

5.       What is the square footage of the spa?

Bronzeado is a 2600 square foot tanning oasis.

6.       Take us for a tour of the spa. Describe the individual departments that make up Bronzeado Tanning Spa?

Immediately as you walk into our venue you are struck with the elegant and comfortable surroundings created by Costantino D’elia from COZ Design. Gold leaf ceilings, crystal chandeliers and crown moldings are special elements of our classical and timeless interior design. To the left is our drink bar for Elixir Tonics and Teas and a large manicure and pedicure room. We have paid special attention to the pedicure stations and custom built the sinks and chairs for bacterial and hygienic reasons. Beyond the manicure/pedicure room is a long hallway with private tanning rooms and our Platinum, Magic and Affinity high pressure beds. Along the second hallway we have rooms for aesthetics, airbrush tanning and showering. We have built pocket doors between the rooms to ensure privacy and good ventilation

7.       How many employees are on the Bronzeado team? What are their backgrounds, certifications, special skills?

We have experienced and skilled staff at Bronzeado. We have a spa manager, three qualified aestheticians, air brush technician and three front desk and Elixir bar attendants. All staff have been trained according to our “Open Book” management philosophy and “Certified Skill” process.

8.       What is the “OPEN” Book management process and how does it apply to Bronzeado? What does skilled certification mean?

We will ensure that all members of the Bronzeado team are experts in all areas of our business. Through our OPEN BOOK management style we will meet monthly to set goals, discuss procedures and learn new skill sets. To ensure consistent service quality and technical skill, every team member will complete an in-salon certification program, which will include a monthly oral and written exam. We want you to always have confidence and peace of mind that you are in the hands of a skilled-certified team member. You will always receive the utmost in True Quality salon service and attention-unconditionally guaranteed.

At Bronzeado we will practice the highest form of team service. This means that the skills of our entire team are available to you. Our objective will be to make every client feel that they may see whom ever they choose without fear of a different quality of service. Meeting your service needs and busy schedule is our top priority

Bronzeado staff will ask numerous questions about client lifestyles to design personal tanning plans. Each client will be required to fill in a comprehensive client questionnaire on their first visit or from a special online form. A detailed digital record of services rendered will be updated on each visit.

·          Education-Bronzeado will ensure 100 % transparency in all tanning and spa operations including government regulations, tanning options and dangers, first and maximum exposure times to skin type, manufacturer specifications, equipment maintenance, spa techniques and product ingredients

15.    Can you elaborate on your client assessment process and why it’s important

Knowing our client is at the heart of our business philosophy. We will ask the right questions about you and your lifestyle so that our skilled experts can set goals and design personal tanning and beauty plans that are smart and tailor-made. Each client will be required to fill in a comprehensive client questionnaire on their first visit or online.

16.    You have purchased state-of-the-art tanning technology for Bronzeado. Tell me about the tanning beds and what makes them unique. Is this technology exclusive to Bronzeado?

Bronzeado is the only spa in Canada with the 2008 collection of tanning beds from Ergoline and SunItalia. Bronzeado has invested 160K in four of the latest top beds to achieve balanced and smart tanning sessions. In particular, three of the beds are of the High Pressure type, which means they emit more UVA and substantially less UVB. UVB has been associated with increased levels of burning rays, whereas UVA rays are more likely to produce a better tan and the risk of burning is significantly reduced.

17.    You have extended your holistic approach to the types of products you offer at Bronzeado. What are these products and why the concern for natural and organic ingredients and environmental sustainability?

We offer products from Jurlique, Spa Essentials and Elixir Tonics. These products complement our holistic tanning philosophy and concern for personal vitality and health from the inside out

18.    You offer spray tanning to complement the tanning packages offered at Bronzeado. What is spray tanning and what are the advantages and disadvantages.

The Air Brush system is a personalized spray applied by trained staff from an Air Brush gun. The Air Brush tanning solution is a natural product that is derived from sugar cane called DHA (Dihydroxyacetone). It causes a natural reaction with the top layer of your skin to give a tanned appearance. Depending on which solution is used and your personal preferences, you may choose from a light sun kissed look to a deep golden brown which appears natural and even. Much more even, than any spray booth tan is capable of rendering.

Spray tanning is good for individuals who want to gain the cosmetic benefits of tanning without the risks of UV ray exposure.
